Project Overview

We need a graphic designer to consult with us about the best way to relay to farmers the titles and a short description of the many resources we distribute on farm law education in a physical medium (handout, brochure). Then, we also need a graphic designer to carry out the idea. We have 100+ resources across 6-8 subjects, so we imagine need to produce a series of something (ie, a series of 6 brochures, or 6 2-page handouts to cover all our resources). But, we aren't quite sure of the best way to solve the problem we're dealing with ( that being, farmers ask us "What do you have on [insert legal subject here]" and we have nothing to hand them). We are eager to consult with someone who likes to solve problems through. Although we feel like we have found a reasonable-enough solution for our website, we lack for hard copy solutions entirely. Ideally, this hard-copy solution would also be something we could email out, as we reach farmers nationwide.

We provide legal education resources to our nation's sustainable farmers, so that they can build more resilient businesses. We've been doing this for a dozen years and have developed an archive of over 100 resources on 6 core topics of farm law. From multi-hour online courses to 2-page handouts and 40 minute podcasts, we have resources that suit a huge variety of needs, concerns, and learning methods.

But, many of our interactions with farmers don't happen online. These farmers ask us things like, "what do you have on solar leasing?" Or, "Do you have something on paying wages in kind?" "I am struggling with insurance, where should I start?" If we had a handout that summarized the resources we have on insurance, we could help that farmer. But we don't have any such thing!

This is also a big problem because very often, we are not the ones directly reaching farmers. Our network of business advisors and educators around the country is generally the first point of contact with farmers themselves. These advisors need a nice, handy handout to give farmers and say, "Hey, Farm Commons has resources that will help. Here's a list of what they've got on insurance."

It seems so simple to publish a list and description of each of our resources. But it isn't simple at all for us! Please, help us!
We have a spreadsheet with 110 rows, one for each resoruce we distribute. The spreadsheet has columns that list each resources's primary subject, description, length, modality (guide, online course, podcast, etc). We have a solid brand identity to work with- colors, font, images, etc. We also have access to Adobe InDesign and could even share a license, if necessary. We would appreciate a designer that can help advise us on something reasonably cost-effective to print and keep on hand, and provide suggestions to printers that are cost effective choices.

At our website, we've created a reasonably useful method of guiding farmers to the appropriate resource for their needs. The website asks a series of open ended questions that mirror what farmers might be asking themselves- then the "answers" to those questions by saying, "hey, look at this resource if you need something on [insert details here]. But we feel so uncertain about how to give that to farmers in an offline, physical resource context.
